The NYS ID/DD Nurses Association is a state level ‘not-for-profit’ organization. It was established in 1984 and incorporated in 1990. The association’s primary purpose is to promote the professional development of nurses interested in individuals who are intellectually and/or developmentally disabled. Association goals include: educational opportunities, information sharing through networking with nurses across the state, and research.
The elected offices of the association include that of president, president elect, recording secretary, corresponding secretary and treasurer. An election of officers occurs annually along with a statewide conference and membership meeting.
The association established zones (see zone map) to facilitate and encourage local participation. Each zone determines its own structure based on the needs and interests of members. Zones elect officers or chairpersons, and appoint representatives to the association’s executive board. They conduct meetings and educational programs for professional development and to foster networking among ID/DD nurses.
The association’s executive board consists of the elected officers, standing committee chairpersons, zone presidents/chairpersons, zone treasurers and zone representatives. The executive board addresses the regular business of the association and meets at least three times per year.
The standing committees of the association include: website, nominating, educational program development, newsletter, and membership committees. A special committee is convened every five years to review the bylaws.
Full membership is open to all registered professional and licensed practical nurses. Applications for full membership shall include current license number and payment of the annual membership fee.
Full Membership at a Retired Rate (reduced rate) is open to all nurses who have maintained full membership for at least 5 years, but have retired from active practice.
Associate, non-voting membership is open to students enrolled in recognized nursing programs leading to eligibility to become registered or licensed as a professional or practical nurse.
Associate membership is also available to nurses who are not currently licensed, inactive or who have been members for less than 5 years.
